01st XI Traditional Match – Gilmore Jayasuriya ends in draw after Joes follow-on

St.Joseph’s College won the toss and elected to field first.

STC got off to a decent start at 51 for no loss with Thisen Eheliyagoda scoring 46. But Muditha Dissanayake 5/44 had STC in trouble at 64/5 before Nathan Caldera 113 and Senesh Hettiarachchi 59 scoring a 100+ partnership to get STC to a formidable 285.

Caldera’s maiden century came after a very patient start but opened up as he grew in confidence with 3 lusty hits over the ropes. The well compiled knock earned him MoM

The slow bowlers took 9 wickets to send Joes to follow on. Charuka Peiris 4/27, Abheeth Paranawidana 3/49, Dineth Goonewardene 2/5

However, Joes were defiant and came out on positive note to make quick work of the deficit to get out of trouble with opener Safresh Jayawardena 78 setting the pace.
