The Thomian swimming team started off the All Island Swimming tournament with a bang, winning four gold medals on the first day.
A stellar performance by S. Kritheeshwar paved the way for this amazing feat by winning 3 gold medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m free style in the Under 20 category. In addition to which, Janidu Jayasundara displayed true Thomian grit, managing to win a gold medal in the 50m butterfly event, while swimming with a temperature. Similarly Abiru Galaboda too swam with a temperature and still managed to win a silver medal in the 50m free style event. Aiden Tissera also managed to walk away with a silver medal in the 100m freestyle event. College managed to obtain 3 bronze medals on the first day, with Santhush Kalansooriya winning a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle and the 100m freestyle category and Aiden Tissera winning a bronze in the 50m freestyle category.
The following day yielded similar success, with the college swimmers winning 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and a bronze medal. The gold medals were obtained by Nikila Ranatunga in the 50m backstroke and Nishel Pieris in the 50m freestyle events. Similarly, the young swimmers both obtained silver medals, Nikila Ranatunga obtaining a silver medal in the 200m Individual Medley event, and Nishel Pieris obtaining a silver medal in the 100m free style event. Moreover, Nikila Ranatunga brought further glory to the college by winning a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle event. An incredibly promising performance by the young swimmers in the under 13 category!
S. Thomas’ College emerged runners up, with 103 total points.
