The 1st XI Cricket Team of S.Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia took on St.Sebastians College, Moratuwa in a limited overs encounter in the cricket team’s league campaign. After an interruption by rain and the number of overs being reduced to 36 overs, the Thomians lost the toss and were put into bat on the Moratuwa surface.
St.Sebastians began their response to the Thomians by putting on 46 runs for the 1st wicket which was broken by some magnificent bowling by Dineth Goonewardena. This was the beginning of a fantastic bowling display by Goonewardena as he got four wickets in his eight overs. Goonewardena was also excellent in the field as he ran out Aloka Fernando and denied his fifty. Despite Goonewardena’s heroics, the Thomians could not stop the St.Sebastians batting unit from storming to the target with Sandeesh Fernando leading his men from the front with his 50.
