Thomian Swimmers dominate at Novices Championships

The College Swimming Team performed exceptionally well at the All Island Novices Aquatics Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association, which took place on the 19th, 20th, and 21st of August. 

In the Under 10 age category, Senura Senaweera placed second in the 50m Butterfly event with a timing of 51.29s. 

In the Under 14 age category, Chelan Weerasinghe placed second in the 50m Freestyle event with a time of 30.68s.

The Under 16 category saw Shehran Nawaz come first in the 50m Freestyle event with a scorching time of 26.95s, and 3rd in the 50m Backstroke event. Abiru Galaboda also walked away with a silver medal in the Under 16 50m Freestyle, ensuring a ‘one two’ for the Thomians in that event.

Janindu Jayasundara walked away with Under 18 Boys Championship, placing first in the 50m Butterfly (30.51s) and second in the 50m Freestyle with a time of 28.01s. 

S. Kritheeshwar wrapped up the remainder of the medals for College with spectacular swims in the 50m Butterfly (31.32s) and 50m Freestyle (27.26s) events, where he placed first and second respectively.

As a result of the swimmers’ impressive performance, the College team won the overall Boys’ Championship after a lapse of 16 years, with a total tally of 103 points including 10 medals.
