
Inauguration of the 175th Anniversary Celebrations

The Annual Prize Giving for the accomplishments of our students in the year 2024 will be held on Monday the 03rd of February 2025 at 4.15pm in the Main Hall.
The Chief Guests for this event will be Mr. Yohesan Casie Chetty and Mrs. Casie Chetty.

Palm Sunday was celebrated with the Palm Procession and the Naration of the Passion Gospel according to St. Mark (arr. SAMUEL BESLER) on the 24th of March 2024.
The services of the Chapel for the Holy Week will be as follows:-
The Department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture, Department of Drama, Cinema and Television of The University of Kelaniya presents A passion Play according to St. Mark on Saturday the 30th of March at 10.30am in the College Main Hall. The play will be conducted in Sinhala.
S. Thomas’ College vs Trinity College, 1st XI Traditional Match Played in Mount Lavinia, on the 19th and 20th of February 2024.
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will be held at the College Chapel on the 3rd of December at 6.00pm.

S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia got off to a flying start in the 2023/2024 season, becoming the only team to progress as an unbeaten team becoming Group Champs at the end of the Group Stage of the All Island Inter School Limited Over Tournament.

De Saram House was placed 1st in the Inter-House Tamil Drama Competition 2023. They retained the shield successfully.

The Tamil Drama Society participated in the Inter-School Drama Competition organised by Royal College on the 24th of september.
The Interschool U16 Hockey Tournament was held in Polonnaruwa last week (Oct / Nov) 2023.
The Under-10 Green Ball tennis players of S. Thomas’ College emerged as All-Island Runners-Up in the recently concluded Inter-School Cool Tennis Tournament at SLTA, all of the leading public and international schools took part, on the 29th of October 2023.
The College Waterpolo team retained the Dr. R.L. Hayman Trophy after defeating Royal college at the 2nd leg of the Royal-Thomian Waterpolo encounter.

Dr.R.L.Hayman (1902-1983) He dedicated his life to the education of the Ceylonese
Rollo Lenden Hayman MA, DPhil (Oxon), MBE, was born in London on December 14, 1902. He was the son of William Hayman, a General Practitioner. The family later moved to Bournemouth on the south coast of England. Dr Hayman was the founding father of S. Thomas’ College at Gurutalawa.

Students of the Lower 3 and Upper 3 took a walk on the beach learning about marine life, the importance of cleaning the beach and of course having fun in the sand, as part of their activity day.

STC got off to a decent start at 51 for no loss with Thisen Eheliyagoda scoring 46. But Muditha Dissanayake 5/44 had STC in trouble at 64/5 before Nathan Caldera 113 and Senesh Hettiarachchi 59 scoring a 100+ partnership to get STC to a formidable 285.

After their recent success at the Football Divisionals tournament, the Thomian First XI and Under 18 Football teams qualified for the Football Zonals tournament which took place on Friday, the 19th of August 2022.
Continue ReadingThe U-20 Western province tournament, a much awaited event for the U-20 hockey team, marked the beginning of their playing season. A long line of matches and tournaments lay ahead. The team faced off against Bandaranayake College Gampaha, in their qualifying round, dominating with a score of 14 – 0 – which is speculated to be the highest number of goals scored in the tournament. The match served as a great confidence boost for the team before advancing forward to the quarter finals.

Continue ReadingDespite the numerous obstacles, the rapid changes, and the uncertainties, the students of the International A/level section achieved new heights in the results they produced at the Summer 2021 International A/S Level and A/Level examination held in May. These grades were achieved solely by the students, by performing exceptionally well in the unseen examination conducted by Pearson and marked by external examiners. Further, 99% of the syllabus was covered online with only a few sessions of revision held in school. Yet the boys persevered and did not give up on themselves, their teachers, or the school.
