Prize Giving 2024

The Annual Prize Giving for the accomplishments of our students in the year 2024 will be held on Monday the 03rd of February 2025 at 4.15pm in the Main Hall.

The Chief Guests for this event will be Mr. Yohesan Casie Chetty and Mrs. Casie Chetty.

Holy Week 2024

Palm Sunday was celebrated with the Palm Procession and the Naration of the Passion Gospel according to St. Mark (arr. SAMUEL BESLER) on the 24th of March 2024.

The services of the Chapel for the Holy Week will be as follows:-

  • Maundy Thursday (School Holy Communion Service) on the 28th of March 2024 at 7.45am
  • Good Friday Liturgy on the 29th of March 2024 at 8.00am
  • Easter Sunday Liturgy on the 31st of March 2024 at 7.30am

The Department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture, Department of Drama, Cinema and Television of The University of Kelaniya presents A passion Play according to St. Mark on Saturday the 30th of March at 10.30am in the College Main Hall. The play will be conducted in Sinhala.

 

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

“I am the day soon to be born, I am the alpha and the Omega, Soon to be Born” 

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will be held at the College Chapel on the 3rd of December at 6.00pm.

Interhouse Tamil Drama Competition

The Tamil Drama Inter-House Competition was  held on the 22nd of September and De Saram House won the title and retained the sheild this year too. 

De Saram House was placed 1st in the Inter-House Tamil Drama Competition 2023. They retained the shield successfully.

Thomian Junior Tennis Players Shine at All-Island Cool Tennis Tournament

 

The Under-10 Green Ball tennis players of S. Thomas’ College emerged as All-Island Runners-Up in the recently concluded Inter-School Cool Tennis Tournament at SLTA, all of the leading public and international schools took part, on the 29th of October 2023.

G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination 2022

The G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examinations are scheduled to be held from the 29th of May 2023 to the 8th of June 2023.

Dr.R.L.Hayman (1902-1983) He dedicated his life to the education of the Ceylonese

Rollo Lenden Hayman MA, DPhil (Oxon), MBE, was born in London on December 14, 1902. He was the son of William Hayman, a General Practitioner. The family later moved to Bournemouth on the south coast of England. Dr Hayman was the founding father of S. Thomas’ College at Gurutalawa.

Lower School Arts and Crafts 2023

The students of the Lower School put together an Arts and Crafts Fair to coincide with the Old Boys Day on the 11th of February 2023. The fair was concluded very successfully thanks to the creativity and hardwork of the students and the untiring efforts of the teachers of the Lower School.

Prize Giving 2022

The annual Prize Giving ceremony of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia for the year of 2022 was held on Founder’s Day, the 3rd of February, 2023 at College Main Hall. The Chief Guest for the event was Bishop Keerthisiri Fernando, the Vicar-General of the Diocese of Kurunagala. All prizes, class and special prizes for 2022, excluding that of the lower school were awarded.

Bishop James Chapman Medal of Honour

This award was introduced by the present Warden at the Prize Giving for 2016, the year that the College celebrated the 165th anniversary of our foundation, not only to remember our revered Founder, Bishop James Chapman, the 1st Anglican Bishop of Colombo, but also to recognize a student who exemplifies and demonstrates what the citation that accompanies the Medal states, “the values of faith, courage, service above self, loyalty, and integrity” and thus fulfils the Founder’s Vision of education:

STC win Western Province Hockey Title after 19 years

The U-20 Western province tournament, a much awaited event for the U-20 hockey team, marked the beginning of their playing season. A long line of matches and tournaments lay ahead. The team faced off against Bandaranayake College Gampaha, in their qualifying round, dominating with a score of 14 – 0 – which is speculated to be the highest number of goals scored in the tournament. The match served as a great confidence boost for the team before advancing forward to the quarter finals.

IAL Results 2021

Despite the numerous obstacles, the rapid changes, and the uncertainties, the students of the International A/level section achieved new heights in the results they produced at the Summer 2021 International A/S Level and A/Level examination held in May. These grades were achieved solely by the students, by performing exceptionally well in the unseen examination conducted by Pearson and marked by external examiners. Further, 99% of the syllabus was covered online with only a few sessions of revision held in school. Yet the boys persevered and did not give up on themselves, their teachers, or the school.
